What to Expect

For a step by step guide to riding in Bike MS:Barrels & Brews, please seee the Rookie Riders Guide.

Before the Ride

Bike MS staff members are available to answer questions and provide fundraising tips and tools. Contact us! We’re happy to help! Reach us atnjmbike@nmss.org or call our offices at 732-660-1005 press option 2 for the local office.

Fundraising

Bike MS provides an unbeatable experience.  For that, we expect each cyclist to fulfill their fundraising minimum before the ride.  Matching gifts count toward s fundraising totals.  Send us your matching gift forms so that we can verify them with your or your donor’s company.

Super Cyclist Jerseys

Top fundraisers, who we call Super Cyclists, are eligible to receive a commemorative cycling jersey for raising $1,000 or more for Bike MS.  Should you raise $1,000 or more by the time of the event, you can pick up your Super Cyclist jersey at event check-in.  If you need more time to qualify for the jersey, you’ll have until the prize deadline (about 6 weeks after the ride), to raise the funds and request a jersey.

During the Ride

While you ride, you should only be concerned about two things: having fun and riding safely! We take care of all the rest. Here are just a few of the things you can count on during event weekend.

SAG Support

SAG (Support and Gear) wagons patrol the course and provide transportation to riders who need a lift to the next rest stop. SAGs do not stop to make bike repairs, but they have bike pumps and repair kits for you, can call for a bike mechanic or  will bring riders to the next stop. SAGs only move a rider forward along the route.

To signal a SAG wagon, follow these steps:
1. Move safely off the road and well out of the path of other riders.
2. Dismount and stand near your bike.
3. Remove your helmet and wave it at the SAG vehicle.

From a moving vehicle, it is difficult to distinguish a friendly wave from a call for assistance. Use the SAG signal when you need a lift. Be aware that some vehicles on the route are not equipped to carry riders. Also, SAG vehicles may be full at peak hours. Please be patient; another SAG vehicle will drive up soon.

Please note that personal SAG vehicles are not permitted to hold up traffic on the route. Please understand our need to cut down on vehicular traffic for YOUR SAFETY. Ask your guests to meet you at the next rest stop or the finish line.

Bicycle Shops and Mechanics

Mechanics are available at many rest stops and at the start and finish lines. Repairs will be performed free of charge but you will need to cover the cost of parts. Call the Mechanical Hotline – the number is found on the route card - if you need assistance on the route.

Medical Support

Medical personnel can be found at each rest stop, at the start/finish areas and along the route. In an emergency, don’t hesitate, CALL 911 and the Medical Hotline number found on your route card.

Police Support

Law enforcement personnel provide support to help you travel safely through busy intersections. Please remember to obey all traffic laws.

Rest Stops

Rest stops are located every 10-12 miles along the route. Each stop will have volunteers who are willing to assist you with:
• Fruit, water and Vitamin Shoppe energy replenishing drinks and snacks
• First aid and sunblock
• Mechanical support from partner bike shops
• Restrooms/port-o-potties

• First aid and sunblock
